I understand where you are coming from (or where you are going to), but whatever the Chinese government and press say to make themselves look disgraceful, a sufficient number of influential sinologists will decorative flower wreaths around it. Many of them defended things much worse in the 1970s, when they were students themselves. In many cases, it isn’t even self-censorship, I guess. It’s blind faith.
