I appreciate a joke as well as anyone, but the above gives the impression of being an earnest account of language learning. It should NOT be taken seriously in regard to language learning. I have no problem acknowledging limited benefits for alcohol in helping people relax, but encouraging outright drunkeness as a route to acquisition is irresponsible. The 'documentation' cited about the connection between alcohol and acquisition says nothing about benefits of drunkeness (as opposed to effects of imbibing a small amount of alcohol). The authors document transitory benefits for pronunciation and their analysis indicates a clear point at which the improvement steeply drops off (just as can be observed in native language speech, of course). Additionally, the cited article says nothing about long-term gains in accuracy. I'm being a sour-puss, but it's just not helpful to make false claims about language acquisition. Also, fluency doesn't benefit from making mistakes, it benefits from not worrying about them. In that sense, alcohol might help a person socialize in L2, just like it does in L1.
