NORTHERN Xinjiang is the home of the Mongols and the Kazakhs. uighurs only started to migrate to NORTHERN Xinjiang in the 1800s after the Qing emperors pushed Han migrants into NORTHERN Xinjiang in the mid-1700s and the Han economic development of NORTHERN Xinjiang is what brought the first uighur migrants from the home in SOUTHERN Xinjiang. Even then uighur migration to NORTHERN Xinjiang from their home in SOUTHERN Xinjiang was small until the 1960s and 70s when the Han/Chinese development of NORTHERN Xinjiang began to pull uighur migrants from impoverished SOUTHERN Xinjiang.

The native Mongols and Kazakhs of NORTHERN Xinjiang are thoroughly assimilated with the Han/Chinese and thus there are no tensions between Mongols and Kazakhs and Han. In fact, many Mongols and Kazakhs are so thoroughly assimilated that they have Han names and thus are “hyphenated” “Hans”.
