In the hopes of avoiding getting bored to death in a Chinese prison cell, film “star” Chan has allegedly spilled on his friends like an action hero, according to Liberty Times, a Taiwanese newspaper.

The “laundry list” contains up to 120 names including a singer with a Taiwanese band “whose surname starts with F, has invested in two night clubs in Taiwan and his family has strong connections with the military.”

Who could it possibly be? Netizens point to Johnny Fei, whose father is a general – but the latter has already told the media, they got the wrong Johnny.

It’s long been known that you need to be on drugs to properly enjoy Mando-pop; it’s vaguely reassuring to learn, then, that its producers are suffering with us. Look forward, then, to a long series of arrests of artists whose work is but a footnote on the arse grapes of musical history.

Meanwhile, a letter that pusillanimous performing-arts associations have been made to sign, pledging not to hire any musicians guilty of drug crimes, has supposedly been leaked [NOTE: the authenticity of this letter has not been verified]

 Dear Singers and Actors,

 How are you?

 I’m writing this letter with grave worries and anxiety. As you must have heard, many showbiz professionals have been busted for whoring and doping recently, and the suddenly toughened-up mainland media environment for entertainers is making us very concerned.

 As a major entertainment group, we feel we are duty bound to notice our entertainers of the importance to abide by law and morality. Please, actors, do not give yourself excuses like “releasing the pressure and relieving oneself” to bring unforeseeable disasters to yourself and the company.

 But since we hold the attitude to “always stick with our people,” we have some sweet advice, as below, for you. Please make sure you follow these: 

1)    Reject invitations to any party involving drugs and report to the company truthfully with absolutely truth [sic]. Keep yourself completely uninvolved with drugs and we won’t allow serious doping problems like Chan and Ke to occur

2)   Those with more colorful private life, we advise you to use Liebao Cleaning Master [a smartphone app to delete junk files and boost running speed] to have your personal information cleansed thoroughly, protected and avoid being leaked.

3)   Reject your friends or other people in the business’s invitations and seduction to go to places linked to prostitution and report to the company about such things. Saving racy pictures is prohibited and we don’t allow incidents like Edison Chan to happen

4)   Be careful of your image and stay low-key at bars, clubs etc, and avoid things that damage your image, like drinking, smoking and swearing in public

Please do follow the four pieces of advice above. I’m bloody begging you now.

Curious about how the smart, sexy Lust, Caution actress Tang Wei was swindled out of 210,000 yuan in a telecom scam on Saturday, as all netizens are? Thanks to NetEase, we now have details.

All members of Tang’s acting group filming in Songjiang, Shanghai on Saturday received similar message from a self-proclaimed Public Security Bureau officer, but only Tang believed the message and called the number. The swindler told Tang that something was wrong with her bank deposit (involved in a criminal case?) and that she must transfer all her money to another bank account to avoid criminal charges.

Our “pure goddess” Tang Wei was apparently frightened and rushed to the closest bank, got online, and wire transferred the money to the swindler’s account, as instructed.

For the last two days, netizens have continually talked about this story. While some ridiculed the acclaimed actress, others have been chastising police for the prevalence of telecom scams in China. Some examples of comments:

NetEase user 秀才V :  I have a friend that deposited 7,000 yuan after years of hard work, but all was swindled out in a telecom scam. He reported to the police but nothing has been done so far. The police ignored his plight, as such cases usually are in China.

A NetEase user from Chengdu, Sichuan:   I am curious about such telecom fraud. For every fraud, there must be a bank account receiving money. Can’t the bank find the receiving account? Why don’t they freeze it? Why don’t they review the surveillance video of the man withdrawing the money?

Tang Wei, 34, the leading actress in Ang Lee’s 2007 soft-core porno Lust, Caution, was reportedly swindled out of 210,000 yuan in a telecom fraud on Friday afternoon. Some netizens have ridiculed her for being a “pure girl,” according to Hug China, but let’s not take credit away from the swindlers. Getting such big bucks out of a movie star deserves a lifetime achievement award. Nigerian princes, the ante’s been raised.

Tang Wei was filming in Songjiang, Shanghai. The money was cheated out of her bank account after she received a call yesterday afternoon. She reported the case to police as soon as she was aware that it was a fraud.

After the telecom fraud, Tang Wei was spotted going to a Bank of Communication outlet and she was confirmed by an employee of the bank to have opened a new bank account there.

We wonder what message she received. Did the swindler pretend to be the State Administration of Radio Film and Television and threaten to bring back the media ban on her? “In March 2008, [SARFT] ordered a media ban citing Tang’s performance of sexual acts in Lust, Caution,” Hug China reminds us.

If an unknown person asks you to transfer money into his or her bank account, don’t do it.
