Despite some skepticism at first, I liked Prism.  So if you have some time and in are in Las Vegas, see the Jabbawockeez’s show.  Not just because it shows how Asian American Urban dance is breaking stereotypes and entering the mainstream, but because it is fun and entertaining.

Perhaps only a matter of time before they make it to China.

The Freshest Kids in China is a project focusing on Chinese urban culture, featuring art, song, and dance. They are cooler than you or I. Check out their latest work, a timelapse at the graffiti wall on Shanghai’s Moganshan Road, featuring French artists JB, Ador, Storm, and Dezio.

They’ve done such things before.

The cool kids of Navator are back at it. This recently released video was shot last October in Xuzhou, directed by Navator. Music by Yppah (D. Song), written by Jose Corrales and Toby Campbell.

Disclaimer off the bat: this was uploaded back in February by YouTube user H3153mb3rg, so it is, in blog parlance, “old.” But I hadn’t seen it yet until today, and it deserves to be shared.

Here’s Business Insider describing the ghost town of Ordos, Inner Mongolia, a.k.a. the Dubai of northern China:

These huge developments were envisioned by the government as blank canvasses for architects, their visions brought to life in contoured brick, marble ledges, and wide expanses of smooth tile. In other words, the Chinese government built the biggest, most elegant skate parks in the world.

Skate park? Skate park. Director of the above, Charles Lanceplaine, took several skaters there for the short film, Ordos. “But there’s nothing to do there,” he told Business Insider. “There are no restaurants or anything. There’s one night club. We tried to go but no one was there.”

Their effort was worth it. Check out the video (the music is You Me by Hamacide + Chacha).

Global travelers Maxwell Swann and Todd Van Duzer “won a 30-day all-expense-paid trip to China,” according to the Vimeo description. “Armed with a couple cameras, they explored almost all China has to offer two 25-year old college grads. Baby pandas, bungee jumping, monkeys, and so much more.”

It’s a decent video, and might, if nothing else, inspire you to hit the road. Or hit up the nearest expat house party and abduct the two horse-dancing females.

The two guys are actually in China right now, “reenacting” their adventure. They started a Blogspot blog whose most recent entry was from November 26: “Max and I will be reenacting our adventure over the next 15 days. Follow us to see our incredible China adventure sponsored by CheapOair!”

Can you take one guess as to why there maybe hasn’t been a more recent entry? Hint.

We last heard from The Freshest Kids in China when they were making this cool video of October’s MIDI Electronic Music Festival in China. Well they’re at it again: George Zhi Zhao has filmed a time-lapse of graffiti artist MELS of BEASTMODE CREW doing his thing at Shanghai’s Moganshan Road. “There’s a lot of things happening right now with Chinese youth creative / street culture and a lot of talented people that just haven’t been given the right exposure yet,” George writes to us. “That’s the main idea behind the freshestkidschina project.”

Navator and the creative agency NeochaEDGE recently released a video from this year’s MIDI Electronic Music Festival in Shanghai, specifically from October 27 at Pudong Lujiazui. These people are what one would call “cool.”

UPDATE, 11:58 pm: Major props are also due for The Freshest Kids in China, which shot and edited the video.

I’ve said it before but it bears repeating: Hong Kong does not seem like a city built by men of this world, such is the ambition of its design and overwhelming beauty. Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Jason Mraz played in Beijing on June 12 as part of his Tour is a Four-Letter Word, marking his first time in China. Without any opening, he and his band played an hour, then did an encore. That’s a lesson here that big-name foreign musical acts would do well to heed: respect the crowd, and they’ll respect you. Those inside Workers’ Gymnasium seemed to love Mraz, often chanting, “Jason! You know what could have made this video by Nice Peter better? No human babies. MORE PANDAS. The only thing better than more pandas… more baby pandas. The stretching cat was a fine touch, he can stay.
