Lying on breast implants can cause rupturing, a woman in Beijing learned recently.

Xinhua reports that this unfortunate woman met silicone failure after lying on her chest playing a video game for four straight hours. Which game she played, we might never know.

Needless to say, the implant was of low quality. According to doctors, women should report discomfort immediately if they’ve gotten breast augmentation surgery.

Unsaid: don’t play games for four straight hours in one position. Bad for posture.

The gaming world in the virtual sphere is filled with life and death, but without real consequences for those who engage in cockamamie strategies. In the real world, a carelessly laid out and executed plan can mean actual death, whose consequence is 15 years in prison, or, as People’s Daily put it, “a lifetime of suffering with guilt and pain.”

Tech in Asia brings us the above story:

In 2008, Li [Tao] noticed a bottle of fast-acting poison in the family’s home. It was pesticide, of course, but Li reasoned that it was likely to make his parents sick enough to go to the hospital, and if his parents were in the hospital, he could play games for as long as he wanted without anyone to stop him. So he slipped the poison into their food one day and then slipped out to play games. By the time he returned home, he had gotten his wish: his parents were in the hospital. But unfortunately for Li, the poison was quite strong, and both his father and mother died.

Li, a middle school student at the time, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his stupidity. (I’m no legal expert, but that seems excessive, considering the circumstances?) There are no Internet bars in prison.

China will have its own system for diagnosing Internet addiction later this year, but here’s an easier way to tell whether you’re addicted: if your hours of nonstop play results in a cerebral hemorrhage.

Kotaku has this case example:

Thirty-six year old IT administrator Xu Yi spent the better part of his weeklong vacation playing video games. According to the Straits Times, Xu’s family said that he would game all night, sleep all day, and when he woke up in the evening he would go out drinking with his friends before going back to his games. They said Xu didn’t exactly love exercise, but he was always in fairly good health—but after his prolonged gaming session, Xu suddenly started complaining about dizziness and a headache.

It turns out Xu suffered a minor stroke. Doctors say he can return to gaming in a month, but for his sake, we hope he picks up another hobby before then.

That system for diagnosing addiction, by the way, came after a 14-year-old boy in Sichuan province admitted to poisoning his mom because she banned him from computer games. Via China Daily (first link):

The boy is accused of pouring farm chemicals into edible oil on Feb 2. It is alleged his actions caused his parents, elder brother and sister-in-law to suffer stomach problems, vomiting and other adverse effects.

So, there’s a second way to know if you’re addicted: when you’re okay with murdering your mother to retrieve your gaming privileges.

Meanwhile, in 2011, a Chinese man died after passing out in an Internet cafe. The virtual world can kill.

We’ve all experienced the apoplexy that comes with a dropped Internet connection, especially in China, where connections can drop in so many ways (such as a non-VPN’ed google search of a sensitive term, which is the worst). But needless to say, few of us have acted on our threats to “kill someone.”

The guy in this story did though.

Brought to us by Charlie Custer of Tech in Asia:

A spotty internet connection can be a real annoyance, but a gamer in China surnamed Zhao took things to a whole new level at an internet cafe in Renqiu, Hebei. When the connection dropped while Zhao was playing a favorite web game, he got angry and sought out the owner of the cafe at his nearby home. The two got into an argument after the owner (surnamed Ren) suggested that Zhao had downloaded a virus that caused the drop, and Zhao began to hit Ren with his fists. Ren, trying to protect himself, brandished a hammer (though he didn’t strike Zhao with it), and Zhao responded by grabbing scissors and stabbing Ren repeatedly. Ren tried to counter with the hammer, but Zhao grabbed it and began smashing him in the head until he fell to the ground, dead. When Ren’s wife came over, Zhao smashed her in the head with a hammer too, also stabbing her with the scissors and a nearby kitchen knife.

Hints of Dostoevsky in that crime, if I may be allowed to say.
