The BJC Bar and Club Awards party is this Saturday at 11 pm at Sanlitun Kro’s Nest. Say you’re there for Beijing Cream and all drinks will be buy two, get one free. The theme is HUNGER GAMES.

Yesterday, Kevin Reitz came by to explain what the men should wear. Today, we have Piper Fisco here to offer a female perspective.

By Piper Fisco

It’s Saturday night, just hours before the Beijing Cream Awards ceremony, and you’re throwing open your closet as a voice in your head screeches, “Grrrl, you have nothing to wear.” But, girl, don’t fret – you got this one.

Before we go any further, let me remind you that you’re going to an anti-awards party thrown by dudes (right, dudes are organizing this?! They must be if it’s at Kro’s Nest). Let’s keep it real: this venue is a pizza place off South Sanlitun Road, which is also host to booze-bag palaces of vomit like Nanjie and Tun, and you’ll be surrounded by people in dragon costumes (you’ll just have to trust us on this one). Suffice it to say, you need not “dress to impress.” You’re a girl, and I’m impressed by a girl who would come to this. Your best course of action would really be to down a couple bottles of medicinal baijiu (I can’t be the only person in town who’s feeling a bit congested, right?) and turn your dirty pair of underpants inside out for the night because you’re not taking anyone home from this one.

If, however, your inner fierce must come out… Slut. This. Place. Up. Wear a loincloth (that falls under the “Hunger Games” theme, right? I know nothing about this new Twilight-Harry Potter-whatever phenomenon, and think Tao should have made it a “50 Shades of Grey” theme. Just sayin’). You’ll be surrounded by freaking dragons, and dragons = nerds or people who are super into the nian. This party will need lots of carefully created cleavage and butts. Lots of butts.

Don’t forget that the drink special is 2-for-1 EVERYTHING. [Correction: buy two, get one free.] If you’re going to take advantage of this deal with beer, wear something that will accommodate your bloat and is conducive to peeing a lot. If you’re going to drink yourself blind on Flaming Kro’s, then wear something flame retardant and, for God’s sake, pull your hair up so it doesn’t catch fire.

Piper’s first piece for BJC was about these awards. She lives in Beijing.

Yesterday we introduced the 1st annual Beijing Cream Bar and Club Awards (image credit Katie), with 22 questions divided into five categories. We’ve invited a guest columnist, Piper, to examine the first of those categories: Dross.

By Piper Fisco

Best Place to Watch English Teachers Try to Pick Up Local Girls (Ed’s note: Kai Bar and Smugglers were late additions)

1F

The Brick

Latte

Luga’s

The James Joyce

Kai Bar

Smugglers

Ahh, the English Teacher, sometimes referred to as the LBH, or Loser Back Home. He comes to Beijing to “study Chinese” and “find himself” while he earns a bit of cash, but really just finds that 9,000 RMB a month can buy a lot of Tsingtaos and that a “gap year” can easily be parlayed into a “gap life.” Expat women often complain about how hard it is to find a man around here, but the truth is, no matter how hard up we are or how cold our bed may be, we’re probably not interested in you – and this totally works out because The English Teacher is often plastered before the end of Happy Hour and trying to put the moves on a local girl who, if she’s lucky, only half understands what’s going on.

Our prediction is that The Brick will easily take this category given not only its dearth of loyal English Teachers, but also the myriad thrice-divorced “businessman” types lurking about.

Best Place for Asian Men to Hit On White Girls

George’s

Loong Bar

Migas

Vics

Xiu

Youth Club (formerly Poachers) (late edition)

As expats, we all appreciate a bit of cultural exchange. However, the average foreign woman doesn’t appreciate a drunk Asian man who may be only something like middle-class rich offering up Chivas and green tea and pulling her down to his table at a gaudy night club. (A tip for the men that do these things: if you can afford to rent that giant bottle of Johnny Walker Red for the night, you can probably afford to take home one of the scantily clad ladies of the night that are milling about. They’re not free, but they’re probably more interested in your money than the average foreign woman you’re slobbering on. Also, don’t touch our boobs.)

This one is tough, and we think it’s going to be neck and neck between Xiu, home to the probably-richer-than-middle-class nouveau riche, and Vic’s, where dignity goes to die alongside students from the international high schools having the time of their lives. Vics may have the upper hand here as Xiu’s formerly infamous Ladies Night has lost steam and appeal since they cut off the free-flow vodka drinks.

Best Place for a Girl to Avoid Interaction with Men

Alfa

Bed Bar

Blue Frog (late addition)

The Bookworm

Destination

Mesh

We’re just going to say it: girl, if you’re going to a gay bar looking for a date, you deserve to go home alone for the rest of your life because your game is fucked. Do you really think you’re going to find someone who wants to hit on you at a place with the website www.bjdestination.com? Get real. These guys have got bigger, harder things on their minds than whether you even exist.

As for the places in this category that aren’t necessarily gay bars, your chances of pulling are just as slim, plus the coffee is over-priced and bad.

The gay bars are an obvious way to avoid male attention, and so is Bed Bar, but only because nobody really goes there. However, we think The Bookworm, which has been hailed as a great place to meet people in the past, will take this one, because the only time we’ve been approached there is to be asked if we could unplug our computer because, umm, my battery is running really low, thanks.

Best Place to Slip Someone a Date Rape Drug and Wander Off

Baby Oh!

Club Juicy Spot

Kai Bar

Propaganda (late edition)

Mix/Vics

Smugglers

To be fair, a thinking, feeling human being would probably need a date rape drug in their system to be at any of these places for more than 30 minutes, including a trip to the bathroom. Nothing worth remembering happens at these places, and horny perverts know that and that’s why they lurk here, waiting for your hot ass to take an eye off your drink so they can slip you something to make you more willing, or at least less cognizant and able to resist.

Our pick for this one has to be Kai Bar. We know a girl who has been drugged TWICE here, so that must be significant in calculating the odds of it happening to others. Kai Bar, you can move, but you’ll never change, you sleazy, grimy, urine-soaked so-and-so.

Piper sold her soul to the devil seven months ago, but that’s okay because he pays well. She currently lives in Beijing.

You can vote for the bars in the Dross category and the four others – Repugnance, Alcoholism, Meta, and Sex — right here:
