YouTube user youluukvideo, whose profile says he/she is based in Taiwan, posted this video last week. We've seen a dog sit on the back of a bike in China, but a cat? In a hat? Turning around to look at the cameraman and thinking, we're sure, "What you looking at?"? Incredible. Much better than that dog.
Does anyone know what qualifies as a Guinness World Record anymore? Parallel parking? Check. Most bras unhooked in one minuted? You gotcha. (Youku version here.) Most cats stacked on a balance beam? They should! Fewest licks to the center of a Tootsie pop? Call Guinness up.
We saw a terribly abusive Asian mom not long ago, now here's a "wolf dad." In a video uploaded to Guangxi Station Information Channel on Youku yesterday, we see that recently at Chenggong Plaza in Kunming, Yunnan province, a man was filmed forcing his two young children to goose-step in public. We're told he used a steel rod for intimidation. We never find out why the kids are forced to goose-step -- apparently they did it "all day" -- and we doubly don't know why so many people passively watched this display of borderline child abuse.
Kate Middleton visited Bacon’s College in Rotherhithe in southeast London yesterday to do some Olympics-related promotion, and — because why not? — engaged in some good ol’ table tennis. Her Royal Highness proved most excellent. Good on you, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. (H/T Alicia) Youku video for those in China after the jump. Buzzfeed is also on... Read more »
This happened in Tianjin recently, probably Wednesday. Questions: How did this man get the jet ski into the street? Over shallow water, does the jet ski not get damaged? Why does he have a jet ski? Is he too good for swimming? What happens when the water recedes?
James Fallows, one of our favorite China correspondents (and writers in general), was on The Colbert Report on Tuesday to talk about his most recent book, China Airborne. Check it out.
Discounting a little drizzle, projected doomsday rains missed most of Beijing proper last night, though other parts of northeast China were not so lucky. Tianjin, which I tend to think of as Beijing's unkempt armpit about 100 kilometers to the southeast, was hit hard yesterday, and the aftermath on one unfortunate stretch of road is visible above.
BJC contributor Alicia found this just now, and it's one of those stunning works of art that makes you want to hug the Internet. It's a man atop a cow singing Justin Bieber's "Baby."
The original video, titled "I am legendary, art dream," is the only work that appears under Youku user w451119777’s page. Apparently it was published two months ago and viewed 1,830 times, a relatively small amount for such a heroic effort.
YouTube user Cassetteboy has posted a hilarious cut-up of Boris Johnson -- who we last saw on this blog trying (and failing) to operate a Sina Weibo account -- welcoming people to London for the Olympics (opening ceremony is Friday, in case you've forgotten). Some of our favorite parts:
We're not sure how this truck flipped over on a bridge in Gansu recently, but the driver was thrown from the cab and would have plummeted 10 meters to serious injury if not for his right leg being pinned underneath the truck. The rescue operation required three cranes and lots of ropes and harnesses. The man was successfully untangled after three hours, and everyone involved deserves a pat on the back.
