Residents in Wenling, Zhejiang province have been going cuckoo over a certain puddle of water recently, ever since a resident had his skin disease miraculously "cured" after bathing from that puddle. Some people now think the water is "holy," capable of curing hundreds of diseases, because why not?
The Office should have stopped being funny a couple seasons ago. All shows have shelf lives, yet somehow, even after the original writers have departed and Steve Carrell has moved on, The Office remains one of the funnier shows on TV (so I'm told). Here it is with a preview of its latest episode, featuring "Asian Jim."

Huangpu Renewable Resources CEO Chen Guangbiao held an extraordinary promotional activity yesterday: he gave away 43 cars, each reportedly worth 128,000 yuan (that’s 5.5 million yuan total, or $830,000), to former owners of Japanese cars that got destroyed during last month’s Diaoyu Island protests. China is an interesting place.
On Sunday in Ningguo, Anhui province, a thief slit the throat of a female high school student in broad daylight, killing her, and then stabbed another woman. The city immediately set up a task force of more than 100 people to investigate. Three hours after the crimes, they identified their suspect, and yesterday arrested him in Hangzhou in neighboring Zhejiang province.
Asian YouTube sensation Kevin (of channel kevjumba) has a new video, and it features his Instagram-loving, high-expectations Asian dad (PapaJumba), and Jeremy Lin. The real Jeremy Lin, who signed with the Houston Rockets in the offseason and is expected to continue assuming his mantle as the most famous Asian basketball player in the world. The skit nails some stereotypes on the head. Kevin trying to say "I don't know" in Chinese is probably the best part (it's so, so consciously bad!), especially in light of Lin's surprisingly decent Mandarin. I wonder how long he practiced his lines.
Surely you'll recall there was a disturbingly bloody subway fight yesterday in Guangzhou involving an elderly man getting the better of a younger combatant despite bleeding from the face. Would you believe, after getting mauled by the elderly man's teeth, the other man, surnamed Wu, has apologized?
Well that didn't take long. It was in our 6 am post today that we said Huawei and/or ZTE would quickly become election fodder, and now we know how quick. The first blow comes via the Obama campaign, accusing Mitt Romney, then CEO of Bain Capital, of "putting profits from China ahead of security for America."
Allen Iverson and Jason “White Chocolate” Williams were among the more famous basketball players in Beijing on Saturday to take on the defending CBA champs in an exhibition at Beijing National Stadium. (No Dennis Rodman this time.) The Ducks beat the American “All-Stars” 132-103, but all anyone could talk about afterwards was the “juke” that... Read more »
We have some good news and bad news. First, the bad: from September 30 to October 7, called "Golden Week" because everyone is on national holiday, accidents on the road in China "killed altogether 794 people and led to direct economic losses worth 13.25 million yuan (2.1 million U.S. dollars)," according to Xinhua.
