Li Hongbo loves paper. He loves it so much that he's taken it to the "artistic extreme," as Crane TV puts it -- which is apt, considering Li can "open" and "provoke" his paper art, turning/flipping/rotating it into different shapes or evocations. The US Justice Department has filed charges against a Chinese researcher it nabbed off a China-bound airplane on Saturday night as it was pulling away from the gate at Dulles International Airport. Bo Jiang, who is suspected of spying, held a one-way ticket and lots of sensitive information, according to CBS News. He will appear for a detention hearing on Thursday. Read more »
On Monday, Free Tibet reported that a 28-year-old woman, Lobsang Thogmey, set herself on fire on March 13 in Aba Prefecture in Sichuan province. It noted: “Her husband, Dolma Kyab, 31, was later given ashes and told she had died and been cremated by the authorities.” Read more »

Another bus drove off the road in China, throwing road safety concerns back into headlines. In Baoshan, Yunnan province yesterday at around 4:25 pm, a passenger bus carrying 29 people "plunged into a ravine," according to Xinhua. Judging by the picture, it's amazing that the casualty count didn't exceed 13. Read more »
