The manhunt in Anyang, Henan province is over. Police have reportedly detained the man wanted for indiscriminately killing three people -- all of them very young -- and injuring a dozen more on a bus yesterday. Reports are the man was recognized while trying to buy a watermelon.
Panagiotis Giannakis, former head coach of the Greek basketball team, arrived in May to begin a four-year contract to lead the Chinese basketball team through the 2014 FIBA World Championships in Spain and the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. As of this writing, however -- following a blowout loss to Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals of the FIBA Asia Championship two weeks ago -- it doesn't look like Giannakis will survive the month.
Landslides caused a section of the Guangzhou-to-Beijing rail to be blocked on Sunday, affecting more than 80,000 passengers, according to the Guangzhou Railway Corporation. Many of them, if the above video is any indication, were stranded at the station, where they spent the night.
A passenger on a bus headed from Huating to Putian in Fujian province last Wednesday held a gun to the driver's head and (reportedly) shouted, "This is a stick up!"
Moments after all the passengers have fled -- starting just before the three-minute mark in the above video -- a firefighter calmly enters the bus by his lonesome, seizes the pistol, and neutralizes the bandit. People then swarm in to complete the capture.
The dude who built this may be a charlatan and asshole who's ignored sensible maintenance requests for four years and is about to get chai'ed, but Zhang Biqin deserves at least a little credit: his "high-rise villa" in Beijing's Haidian district makes for some pretty stunning visuals.
Jiang Wu had quite the night of drinking in Qingdao, Shandong province. He doesn't remember much of it, but it was weird, see, because he woke up in a completely dark container, and couldn't get out.
A shipping container. Bound for Los Angeles.
In Shantou, Guangdong province, security cameras appeared to capture a kidnapping this morning while passersby watched on. Authorities are on the case and there are no further details at the moment -- we don't know, for instance, whether the woman forced into the white van (she's pulled in by a man, who's abetted by a woman wearing pink) knew her kidnappers -- but it's a startling scene. The Youku video description notes that people stood around and watched, but no one took action.
"I'm 90 years old," the young lady in this video begins by saying. "My grandson, @木头宅, is gay. He is very dutiful and sensible. I love him dearly. I hope he finds a good boyfriend and lives a happy life, and I hope that the government supports him."
On the famous Duan (Broken) Bridge near West Lake in Hangzhou, a guy went around asking questions about kisisng (is the upper or lower lip more sensitive?), and then tried to get couples to smooch on camera. The latter, I assure is, is not the weirdest part about this video. Skip ahead to the lip sensitivity test starting at the 2:30 mark.
