This interview never gets off on the right foot: the lag between the anchor and the reporter is a full five seconds, causing the anchor to make a “Why haven’t you acknowledged my greeting?” face. Reporter Feng Yuxian, live from Dubai (that’s the Dubai Tower Burj Al-Arab Hotel in the background), then delivers her correspondence... Read more »
Back in August, Alicia turned up a video of a five-year-old in Hong Kong playing the piano so outrageously well that many viewers justifiably asked if the video was fake. Go watch it again. It truly is unbelievable.
The video's authenticity has since been confirmed, which means the kid behind the keys really is as amazing as he looks. The four-minute clip has racked up more than 2 million viewers, a number that will only likely increase thanks to this bit of recent publicity.
We learn yet again that eagles possess the uncanny ability to terrify. In the above video, a man is taking his small pet bird out for a stroll -- you can see the little guy near the end -- when an eagle swoops in and grabs the bird off the man's bicycle handlebar. In case you missed it, the video replays several times.
Posted Friday, this video starring toddler Romeo Elvis Bulte Boivin has already racked up 8 million views, and understandably so. Directed by French Canadian comic book creator Patrick Boivin -- who made Iron Baby two years ago starring his daughter, Marguerite Bulte Boivin -- Dragon Baby features a baby and kung fu, and if there was a set of magic formulas for a video going viral, I'm pretty sure baby+kung fu would qualify. Check it out.
I know you're going to hate me for this, but throw back a drink of choice and let yourself enjoy this. It succeeds where other Gangnam parodies fail: by sticking to the basics. It doesn't rewrite any lyrics. Doesn't invent dance steps. It just says to PSY by way of tribute: you think you're zany with your horses and K-pop stars? We're going to give you cross-dressing chefs, ridiculous costumes, and the Na'vi. Meanwhile, everyone slowly loses their mind. Take it or leave it.
Early Monday morning in Hengyang, Hunan province, a woman was knocked down in the middle of the road. After calling the police, some helpful passersby shone lights around the area as a warning to passing vehicles. Shockingly, however, not only did cars not slow down, but some proceeded to run right over the wounded woman, ensuring her death.
Talk about the ultimate bad day. On Sunday morning, a man in Shenzhen popped into a convenience store for a quick purchase. He left his car running and his door open (never do this, by the way), thinking nothing could possibly happen since he'd only be away for one minute. But then, in plain sight, he sees someone hop into his car and drive away, so he sprints out of the store...
First and foremost, props to all the security personnel in this video, who not only didn't steal any of this drunk and belligerent man's money, but helped him pick it up and gave it back to him.
Now for what happened.
We're as sick of Gangnam Style parodies as everyone else, but this latest, "Nasty China Style," has a few redeeming factors. First, it's sung in Cantonese; I tend to think all Gangnam parodies are bad mostly because of the lyrics, but it helps when you don't know what they're saying. (There are subtitles though.) Second, file this one under "Red Army Orchestra meme" -- it'll help you get over the anti-Gangnam mental block so that you click play; other memes also make a cameo, such as "My dad is Li Gang." And third, it highlights the ongoing Hong Kong-mainland China rivalry, which transcends Gangnam.
You'll have to pardon the first half-minute of this video; I'm not sure either why someone felt it necessary to play the accident back and again, back and again. But everything about this story, which happened in Ningbo last month and was recently publicized, gets better: four women who were passing by immediately went to the victim and tried to resuscitate him. We're not sure exactly what they did, but the video shows one of them pressing on his chest. The man survived.
