We’re guessing this video was taken in Vietnam, but given we found this on Youku and here at BJC we’re amused by all quirky and homemade inventions, we thought we’d share this clip of a guy riding his own version of a batmobile… although it appears this vehicle is simply made from exercise equipment, bicycle... The Guardian continues to win its coverage of the Olympics. You might remember they were right on top of the Ye Shiwen story, and what can you say about their Lego reenactments of Olympic moments except bravo, good sirs.
Wearing what could possibly be a fake Lakers jersey and shorts. We think one of his feet is in a plastic tub. The video description says he’s like the wind, which would only be true if the wind lik shimmies like his. Nothing else is known. Youku video for those in China after the jump.
Courtesy of Sina, here’s actual Olympic footage! UPDATE, 12:06 pm: They’ve disabled the embed. But you can watch on Sina’s website if you’re within the mainland. The players in the above have, as reported, been disqualified from the tournament. The Indonesian team withdrew its appeal, and the two South Korean teams’ appeals were rejected, according to... Last Thursday afternoon, a traffic cop in Shijiazhuang, Hebei province was going about a routine day's work when the opportunity arose for him to save a life. Watch in the video how he pulls a young girl from danger at the last possible second, out of the path of a backing truck.
Now, there's a possibility that these street-cleaning trucks use something more than water to clean the streets, some kind of chemical spray, perhaps, that cleans concrete better than... rainwater. (If that's the case, I'm never biking near these things again.)
Otherwise... no, we don't get this, either.
You don't need to know Chinese to appreciate this video (though the subtitles by chnnewsengsub are appreciated).
Wu Jingbiao, the two-time reigning World Weightlifting Championships gold-medalist, was the favorite to win on Sunday, and would have if not for North Korean Om Yun Chol's perfect day. In his post-lift interview, Wu was inconsolable. “I feel terribly guilty for disappointing my country, the Chinese weightlifting team and all the people who supported me," he said. "I really wanted to be the best but I didn’t make it. I am sorry!"
UPDATE, 6:19 pm: The Ku6 video has been pulled, but you can watch the full race on Sina here if you’re within mainland China (they don’t allow embedding). All eyes will be on Ye Shiwen tonight (8:43 pm London, 3:43 am Beijing) when she competes in the 200-meter individual medley (she set an Olympic record... Read more »
The buildup is long and strange, but it’s full of wonder and intrigue. Why is the old man’s pants unbuckled? Why is he surrounded by three much younger urban enforcement officers, i.e. chengguan? Why does one of the officers appear to have a ripped shirt? Why does the old man taunt them, saying, “Come on,... Read more »
A young boy, identified as "10-some years old," nearly drowned a few days ago in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, and probably would have if not for a bit of serendipity and a young nurse who just happened to be passing by. Fetched from the water by his family, the boy was showing little signs of life when Wang Guoshuang began performing CPR on him. Interviewed afterwards, Wang says she had practiced CPR as an intern, but never performed it in real life. Apparently she was a good student: after several minutes, the boy was revived. He is now out of danger.
