Last week, a "violent fight" between two Chinese passengers on a 200-person flight from Zurich to Beijing caused the pilot (or an equally harebrained decision-maker) to turn the plane around after more than six hours in the air. (I can't imagine what possible reason a pilot could give for doing this, or the passengers' resultant anger.) Sadly, no one on the flight took a video, but we imagine it would have looked something like the above
Protesters occupying Hong Kong’s city plaza have won — sort of. Wall Street Journal reports people are feeling “mixed jubilation and frustration” after the city announced yesterday it will make its controversial National Education curriculum “voluntary.” While it’s too early to unravel all the implications of this decision, a direct result is that those on their hunger... Last month we brought you a draft version of a rather incredible survey called the “Questionaire on the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC)” [sic]. We were told that “exquisite prizes will be presented to 3000 winners selected out of the overseas participants,” which seemed absurd. Were they expecting 10,000 respondents? Even so,... Read more »
We all know shit happens. But when it happens four times? That's a higher power telling you to stop being you.
This video is a blast from the past, specifically September 12, 2009 (original Tudou video after the jump for those in China). It's worth sharing now as a reminder that talent and intelligence are important, but nothing is more important than perseverance. When you fall, get back up. When you fall again, get back up again. Another day, another lesson for the road. When you're in a parked car, please turn your head to look behind you before opening your door.
On many occasions have I envisioned myself flipping over the handlebar because I suspect the passenger of the parked car I'm about to pass will step out at just the wrong second. Thankfully I've yet to take a tumble, but last week in Wuhan, a family of three on a scooter weren't so lucky.
Last week it was eggs. Now it’s grapes. Sina Weibo (where the above pictures are from) has been buzzing in the last 24 hours about this story from Lianzhou in Gansu, one of China’s poorest provinces. On Wednesday, a truck tipped over at a turn and spilled about 300,000 yuan’s worth of grapes. That’s 300,000. Local... Read more »
