Long time no see, Beijing Creamers. Hope you all had a nice holiday last week. Yep. Welp. Weather is nicer, festival season approaching, lots of interesting and wonderful bands and bullshit coming to Beijing soon, blah, blah, blah. Zzzzzzz. God, who can even muster the energy anymore, eh!
So, um… yeah. Here’s another Chinese punk band for you to get into. Another bunch of reprobate Chinese kids playing that punk rock. Dunno, man. I’m trying to throw some diversity at you for these Friday video things but I keep coming back to that punk rock. Don’t fight it, son. Let’s just not fight it, shall we?
This is Demerit, a band that’s been around Beijing since the dawn of time in various guises and line-ups over the years. This is them on the Vans Warped Tour — in fucking Florida no less — filmed by one Josh Feola while he was following them around the States on their tour, humping gear, and recording their experiences for posterity. Pretty rad. Highlights: 1:50 — the band posing with some serious firepower in front of an RV; 2:25 — two brohammers throwing down the weakest lil’ mosh you ever did see.
And of course:
“We are from China. This is our first time to play in the US. Next song is called… THE WORLD HAS BECOME BATTLEFIELD!”
I love that. True grit.
So this one’s a topical video to get you back into Demerit because they’re playing Saturday night at School Bar. They were just on a little break for a while there but now they’re back with a new drummer. Will they do the Martin Luther King intro? I don’t know. But definitely that would be a good show to see. Really great live act, if you haven’t had the chance to see them before. They’re sharing a bill with Discord and Gum Bleed, so that’s just good punk rock value, my friend. It’s just good value. Beijing punk pride, you know.
