Yishus: Caochangdi Photospring, Where You Can Take Pictures Of Pictures

Rongrong and Inri
Fan Shisan’s “2 of Us” series (in which the same subject is photographed twice, creating two friends out of one individual) argues that the One-Child-Policy generation is the loneliest generation. My art critic friend and I walked through a Miyazaki spring wonderland of floating tree sperm to make a point of arriving early to Caochangdi on... Read more » Read more »

Just Dance, Gonna Be Okay

Airport cheerleaders
Via Side Spitting – a post that’s brilliantly titled “Shimmy and a Shake, You’re Alright” — China Daily reports that on Tuesday in Dalian, heavy fog caused flight delays that stranded about 5,000 passengers. That’s not the news though. As you know, flight delays happen all the time, and in China, sometimes they go for 15... Read more » Read more »

Bo Guagua, The Dude Himself, Makes Statement Via Harvard Crimson

Bo Guagua
Via Cherwell.org I don’t normally read the Harvard Crimson, but I’m going to guess that newspaper just got its finest scoop of the year. Bo Guagua corresponded with staff writers Hana N. And speaking of world, the model's global debut was in Beijing. Think about that. So the China auto market kind of matters, I think that's what we're illustrating here? Read more »

Leehom Wang Flubs Famous Line In “As Time Goes By” At BJIFF’s Opening Night

Leehom Wang As Time Goes By featured image
Taiwanese American heartthrob Leehom Wang performed "As Time Goes By" on Monday at the star-studded opening ceremony of the 2nd Beijing International Film Festival. All in all, Wang did a commendable job with Herman Hupfeld's song -- popularized by Dooley Wilson in Casablanca, of course -- but in front of a national audience -- the show was televised on CCTV-6 -- he flubbed the famous line, "You must remember this, / A kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh" ("The fundamental things apply / As time goes by"). He said "a smile is just a sigh." Oops. Read more »

Another Pedestrian Falls Through Sidewalk In China, This Time On Video

Fall down sidewalk featured image
"What is it with people falling through the sidewalk in China?" asks Katie, who brought my attention to the above, which happened in Xi'an, Shaanxi province. Remember the woman in Beijing who was plunged into boiling water when the ground inexplicably gave out from under her feet? How can you not remember. Sidewalk. Walking. SUBMERGED BY SCALDING WATER. DISASTER. She would perish from her injuries, which we were told included her skin and flesh getting “almost separated.” Read more »
