A Benign-Looking Accident Involving Bikes Proves Fatal

In Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, surveillance cameras recently caught this perfect storm of an accident involving a motorized three-wheel wagon and a bicyclist.

The man driving the three-wheel wagon swerves and loses control when the bicyclist cuts in front of his path. Neither saw the other coming due to another trike that was in the exact wrong spot in the intersection.

We’ve seen dozens of shocking traffic accidents in China that didn’t result in death, and by comparison, this one looks mild. Yet life is fragile, I think is the lesson here. The bicyclist died. Youku video for those in China after the jump.

There must be 1000′s of accidents like this in China. Some driver does something selfish and stupid and other drivers try to avoid him/her and end up getting killed while the first driver is ok.

I am guessing from the flow of the traffic that the cyclist was running the light? Someone correct me if that seems wrong.

the lessons are a) wear a helmet while biking, and b) don’t cross traffic when the light is red.

from what i can tell, the one person who wasn’t at fault was the guy who ran over the biker. though he was probably going too fast through that intersection, he did have the right of way.
