I have DEFINITELY ranted like that guy more than once…but most of those rants are ones that Chinese shouldn’t take so personally. The kind of people who constantly rant like that are likely to do so wherever they are in the world. They just like to complain about stuff, regardless. I’ve been here 10 years now and have met plenty of them. No place is perfect, and China has its unique list of things that get people riled up. I’ve heard plenty of locals rant about the same stuff from time to time. When you live in a place for a long time, you ARE entitled to blow off steam about it every now and then. It’s normal.

I have ranted about all that stuff the guy is ranting about, except for the one about how they can’t even speak the simplest of English, even though they learn it.

I think expecting them to speak a foreign language is unfair, and having grown up in a non-English speaking country, I realize how hard it is to pick up a foreign language, and how learning a language in school is no guarantee of speaking it.

So can I say the same thing about all the Chinese who go abroad? Can’t make it in their own country so they come to ours?
