The Good Doctor, who wrote about rock climbing last month, apparently isn't the only one who believes rock climbers are "fucking cool." Last week, while climbing at Ritan Park, the crew of a Chinese game show showed up to film at the wall. Contestants climbed in pairs -- neon team vs. fuchsia team -- and we're told that for the most part they did not do very well.
Sent to us by German saxophonist Yampal, this song is described as “a new reggae tune, based on an old song from tibet:qingzang-tibet-plateau 青藏高原." Enjoy your weekend, folks.
The website Godvine got itself a viral video recently, called "4 Year Old Boy Plays Piano Better Than Any Master - Wow," but left no information about it. Can you blame anyone for being a bit a skeptical? But this looks real to our eyes. Maybe the boy is actually older than four, but we'd just be nitpicking there. If he's playing even half those keys, I daresay he has a promising career in music in front of him. Alicia, who found this on Facebook, tells us that the father says at the very beginning in Cantonese, "Play it again..."
Sun Tzu's The Art of War has been around for more than 2,000 years, and it may be a timeless classic, but it's about time it got a reboot.
Enter Kelly Roman, whose graphic novel The Art of War is set in a dystopian future and samples from the ancient military treatise. Explains China Daily's Kelly Chung Dawson, the book "overlays Sun Tzu's text against a revenge story set 20 years in the future, in an imagined time in which Wall Street has become militarized and China is the dominant global superpower.
A veteran tour guide surnamed Xu in Changsha, Hunan province recently found herself in the center of a brawl over seemingly nothing. As she says in the above video, she saw an agitated man in her tour group on Thursday morning and confronted him, asking him what he was so angry about. He responded by beating... Read more »
ANIMAL, it says. That’s the best part. Hello — yes, this is ANIMAL. This picture is part of a collection via Xinhua called “Beauty pageant of dogs.” (There’s something Xinhua isn’t telling us, I’m sure.) Animal has absolutely no fashion sense, but what about this one here…
First things first: the "skinhead" in this title is not a reference to white supremacists/Nazis, which pretty much is the reason this video on YouTube has been viewed more than 600,000 times since it was uploaded on December 14, 2007. The Youku version has a paltry 2,357 views by comparison. Misando (蜜三刀) is an old-school Beijing punk band, and you can bet they wouldn't have lasted this long as racists. They'll be playing at the 9th annual Punk Festival at Mao Livehouse over the weekend. We wish we could tell you whether they're scheduled for Saturday or Sunday, but this "festival" is promoted so poorly that it's not even on Mao Livehouse's website. So it goes.
Music fans will either rejoice or wallow in the fact that there are two notable music events happening tomorrow night: the 9th annual Punk Festival at Mao Livehouse (which will happen on Sunday as well), and the New Music Showcase at 2 Kolegas. Now, links.
You don’t want to go out this way. Recently, a man on a scooter in Yuhuan, Zhejiang province died when a truck carrying 10 tons of boiling tar tipped over and deposited its contents on him. “‘The bitumen poured out all over the man on the bike. You could smell it burning. There were some... Read more »
We’re not sure what this “2nd China International Sandy-Beach & Swimsuit Culture Exposition” is, nor have we heard of Huludao, Liaoning province, which is hosting this expo that began yesterday and lasts until Sunday. We only know what’s in the photos, and that Xinhua put them on its website, because of course it would.
