A young boy, identified as “10-some years old,” nearly drowned a few days ago in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, and probably would have if not for a bit of serendipity and a young nurse who just happened to be passing by. Fetched from the water by his family, the boy was showing little signs of life when Wang Guoshuang began performing CPR on him. Interviewed afterwards, Wang says she had practiced CPR as an intern, but never performed it in real life. Apparently she was a good student: after several minutes, the boy was revived. He is now out of danger.
The woman, who we’re told was “born in the 90s,” deserves all the praise she’s currently getting. Youku video for those in China after the jump.

Isn’t the “most beautiful” tag supposed to be reserved for people who have lost limbs? I’d come to understand that the media had an amputee fetish. This nurse thing screws my theory up.
It’s the status of “most beautiful [something]” that makes you lose your limbs, not the loss of limbs that gets you the status. Let’s see what tragedy will hit this poor girl, I’m grabbing the popcorns.
I am pretty glad a story like this is getting some traction, even if it has to employ the “most beautiful” tag. It’s just refreshing to have a story with a positive outcome and no one was an asshole in the process (unless you track back to how the child got into the water with the parents there).
