Here’s Ai Weiwei’s Music Video For “Dumbass,” About His Prison Experience

Ai Weiwei’s 81 days in detention in 2011 is the inspiration for his latest work, “Dumbass,” a song he wrote with music by rocker/artist Zuoxiao Zuzhou. The accompanying video was released minutes ago, in which Ai recreates scenes from his imprisonment. “He also portrays fantasies he imagines flitting through the guards’ minds,” reports the NY Times. The cinematography is by Christopher Doyle, who has worked with the likes of Wong Kar-wai.

The song is also on Soundcloud and will be included in a forthcoming album called The Divine Comedy, to be released June 22.

You can download the video here.

If you don’t think you’ll be hearing a lot more about this song in the coming hours and days, you don’t know Western media.

The lyrics are posted on the YouTube description:

Dumbass (Explicit Lyrics)

When you’re ready to strike, he mumbles about non-violence.
When you pinch his ear, he says it’s no cure for diarrhea.
You say you’re a mother-fucker, he claims he’s invincible.
You say you’re a mother-fucker, he claims he’s invincible.
Fuck forgiveness, tolerance be damned, to hell with manners, the low-life’s invincible.
Fuck forgiveness, tolerance be damned, to hell with manners, the low-life’s invincible.
Oh dumbass, oh such dumbass! Oh dumbass, oh such dumbass!
Oh dumbass, oh such dumbass! Oh dumbass, oh such dumbass!
Lalalalala, lalalalala Lalalalala, lalalalala
Lalalalala, lalalalala Lalalalala, lalalalala

Stand on the frontline like a dumbass, in a country that puts out like a hooker.
The field’s full of fuckers, dumbasses are everywhere.
The field’s full of fuckers, dumbasses are everywhere.
Fuck forgiveness, tolerance be damned, to hell with manners, the low-life’s invincible.
You say you’re a mother-fucker, he claims he’s invincible.
You say you’re a mother-fucker, he claims he’s invincible.
The field is full of fuckers, dumbasses are everywhere.
The field’s full of fuckers, dumbasses are everywhere

This is one of the dumbest songs I’ve ever heard. His Fat Majesty should stick to art. He has played western media like a fiddle, and I’m sure this song will go over well with his legions of fans. Evan Osnos will probably write about it first, and of course praise it because the tortured mult-millionaire artist spent 90 days in jail (which turned to be an amazing career boost). Dont bother watching the documentary “Never Sorry” because that’s a joke as well.

Ai Wei Wei’s wife could sing her own version and call it, “Next Time Wear a Condom, Dumbass.”

Who gives a flying fuck about this Porky Pig motherfucker? Don’t you love how he always has to use his famous friends to serve as adrenaline shots for stunts like this? Chris Doyle as his DP? Unbelievable!

“Ai has plans to release a hard-rock album, titled “The Divine Comedy” later this year, partly inspired by the work of British singer Elton John, who dedicated a concert to him last year”. From some garbage news feed.

Hard rock inspired by Elton Bloody John.!!!!!!!!

You got to be kidding. AWW is truly fucked in the head, and the sooner the PSB take him into custody the better.

He would be more impressive if anything he did didn’t seem like a drunken idea realized with zero actual talent.

Fuck this, fuck that, jump around naked and cry about being oppressed. There, that’s his entire act. He was a complete failure as an artist in the US and the only publicity he gets is from his anti-china gimmick. It’s old.

I’m so fucking sick of hearing about this fat fuck. Evan Osnos is on his knees sucking this art pig off right now listening to the latest Elton John-inspired tracks. What a fucking waste. Sometimes Beijing makes me so fucking sick. I moved to Beijing to get away from shit like this and now I’m right in it all over again. I’m moving to Harbin!

I get the distinct impression that laowaiofficerat, bleedingjesus, laowainuzzle, Fred and godsucker are all the same person.

Someone doesn’t like Ai Weiwei so he’s a 50 center with a predetermined narrative? Fuck you.

Someone named “Phil Ass” is offended? Oh no Mr. Ass, I didn’t mean you, not at all.

You, unlike those crude 50 centers, are just a douche-nozzle from the poor side of your mama’s asscrack.

Now feck off home, foul wanker.

I don’t know. I’m not convinced. The tone and style of the comments are the exact same and also two references to ‘Evan Osnos’ whoever that is.

You could be right. Fred’s been going at it for awhile, strictly by the book. The others are all throwaway usernames.

They hate this guy because he bucked the system even though he could have used his family background to stay comfortably rich. But what they forget is that he suffered a lot when he was young and his father had political problems. He knows something about the collective punishment and brutal punishment doled out by the party.

The more I think about it the more obvious that they are one person. bleedingjesus/godsucker…these two usernames are clearly streamed from the same consciousness. Ditto Laowaiofficerat/laowainuzzle. The language and in particular the references to Evan Osnos tie it all together.

Honestly who gives a fuck what this 50cent’er person thinks? I just find it intriguing that someone would engage themselves in such a fucked up pursuit.
