      So true that. It bugs the hell out of me. And what makes it worse is when some Noob tells me that I have to work on my tones. Grrrr

      The worst is when people try to mock others about language when they clearly don’t know the language themselves, have put this through Google translate and come up with the wrong character for “kuai”

      块 = piece, slang for 元
      快 = fast

      I don’t really mind if somebody genuinely doesn’t understand my Chinese. Well, I am frustrated about it, but I obviously don’t blame them, since the problem is my own.

      What I do mind, however, is when Chinese waiters DO understand what I say to them in Chinese, and then still insist on trying to reply in horrible English. Just do me the courtesy of replying in the same language I spoke to you in, especially since my Chinese is better than your English, AND you don’t even know if my English is that good (not every white person speaks fantastic English).

      I’m only now getting it that this must be an autobiographical, if not hilarious, journey of the author’s progress in china over time. Notice the gradual deterioration of the white people he draws – fatter, more slovenly, thinner hair – compared to a year ago.
      Couple that with the increasingly frustrated tone of these “comics”, the author’s need to defend himself against or viciously attack the commenters, and it all paints a clear picture.

      Ah… so many conflicting emotions with this one. Love your work LCG but this one has left me feeling … ‘im not really like that am i?’ ‘surely its not my fault… its them who dont understand, my language is fine.’

      I can have a two hour conversation with someone i just met in Chinese no problem then ask a waiter for another round of beers to be met with a blank stare and a
      “他说什么?“ from the waiter. I really hope i dont look like that guy you just drew when it angers me.
