China Daily’s European Weekly, Congratulating Itself On Its 100th Issue, Of Course Makes A Typo

We haven’t talked about China Daily in a while. The November 16-22 issue of its European Weekly marked the 100th issue of the periodical, and it wanted to publicize this milestone via a small graphic on the front page. This is acceptable, of course, and not just relative to China Daily’s previously egregious front-page decisions. But as Sam Geall, a China lecturer at the University of Oxford and executive director of China Dialogue, pointed out on Twitter, the graphic just had to have a typo, didn’t it?

   I guess, then, they were only trying to change one out of the many Chinatowns?

   In the picture I read the word ‘Changing’ and thought at first that it was supposed to read as a district in Shanghai.

   Been here too long.
